Because we all deserve equal protection.
We were all born with basic human rights and it is these rights that are seriously threatened by climate change. Climate change threatens us all in one way or another, but the people most likely to suffer are those who are discriminated against. We all equally deserve protection from this global threat.
We have nothing to lose, only to gain.
Fighting climate change gives us an opportunity to put human well-being first by enforcing the right to a healthy environment. It will also enable us to strengthen human rights, for example by giving more people access to cleaner and cheaper energy and by creating jobs in new economic sectors.
Because we have the knowledge, the capacity and the means to stop climate change.
Many people are already working on innovative, creative, and promising technologies to combat climate change. Individuals, companies, and cities around the world are actively developing policies, campaigns, and methods that will protect people and our planet. Indigenous peoples and minority communities have been learning sustainable ways to coexist with the environment they call home for centuries. Now we can learn from them and, with their consent, use their knowledge and skills to find other ways to interact with our planet.
